MBTI for Teams

How MBTI for Teams works

Everything you need to know about bringing the MBTI® to your team at work — and to anyone else you collaborate with.

The basics

How does MBTI for Teams work?

You set up the whole team in one purchase: name your team, add everyone's email, pay once. Each teammate gets a personal invite link by email — their seat includes the full MBTI For You, theirs to keep — and your team page shows progress live: who's invited, who's mid-assessment, who's done. If someone has taken MBTI with us before, they join in seconds with their existing results. Once 3 people have finished, the team view unlocks: your team type, the four preference-pair dynamics, side-by-side member comparisons, and team insights — your team's strengths, where it can grow (with suggested remedies), and how the team solves problems, communicates, and handles conflict. It keeps filling in as the rest finish, so you don't have to wait for the last straggler to get value. A slide deck comes with it, talking points already written in, so whoever leads the team can walk everyone through the results without preparing anything.

Does everyone on my team need to buy MBTI for Teams?

No — you buy once for everyone. One MBTI for Teams purchase ($99.95, which includes your own MBTI For You) plus one member seat per invited teammate ($99.95). Nobody you invite ever pays or sees a price — each seat includes that person's own full MBTI For You. And you pay each price once, ever: after your first purchase, creating additional teams is free — you only pay member seats for people new to you, and people from teams you own join your new teams free.

Example: A team lead sets up a team of five: one MBTI for Teams purchase plus four member seats, all in a single checkout. Everyone gets a personal invite link by email, and the lead watches progress from the team page until the full team view unlocks.

How big does my team need to be?

The MBTI® Team Report needs at least three members (including you) — team dynamics like the collective team type and the Team Similarity Index only become meaningful with three or more people. A team can have up to 60 members in total, including you. For a group of two, the one-on-one comparison view gives you the full side-by-side breakdown without the Team Report; for a group larger than 60, split it into subgroups — each gets its own team and its own report, which is also how the underlying methodology recommends handling big groups.

What does the person I invite need?

Nothing but the email you already sent them. When you set up your team, you cover a seat for each person — they get a personal invite link by email, never see a price, and their seat includes the full MBTI For You: their own verified type and complete results, theirs to keep forever. If someone already has MBTI results on their account, they join your team in seconds without retaking anything.

Setting up your team

How do I set this up for my team?
  1. 1Set up your team in one purchase: name the team, add each person by email, and pay once — the team purchase plus a seat for each member.
  2. 2Everyone gets a personal invite link by email the moment your payment goes through. They never see a price — their seat is covered.
  3. 3Each person takes the assessment at their own pace. Anyone who already has MBTI results on their account joins in seconds.
  4. 4Track progress live from your team page — who's invited, who's mid-assessment, who's done — and nudge stragglers with one click.

What if someone never takes it, or doesn’t want to share their results?

You are never held up by one person. Your team results unlock once three people have finished, so you can look at where the team stands while the rest catch up — anything based on a partly-finished team is labelled Preview, on screen and on the report itself, because the team type can still change as people complete. If someone genuinely isn’t taking part, remove them from the roster: they stop counting towards completion, and their own results stay theirs. And if an invite simply went to the wrong person, you don’t need to remove anyone — change the email on their invite and that same seat goes to someone else at no extra cost.

Can I add people after I’ve already set the team up?

Yes — a roster is never frozen. Use Add people to this team on your team page and pay only for the new seats ($99.95 each). Anyone you have already paid for on another team you own joins free. New joiners get the same personal message as everyone else, and you can read or edit that message right where you add them.

When can I download the MBTI® Team Report?

As soon as three people have finished. Everyone on the team can download their own edition — the report is personalised, showing your working style alongside the team’s. If you download before everyone is done, the file says Preview on its cover and names how many people it covers, so nobody mistakes a work-in-progress for the finished article. Download it again once the last person completes and you get the full version.

Can someone else help me manage the team?

Yes. You can name someone a team admin while you’re setting the team up, or from your team page once they’ve joined. An admin handles the chasing: sending reminders, resending an invite, copying an invite link, and fixing a mistyped name or email. Anything that changes who is on the team or what it costs stays with you as the owner — adding or removing people, restoring someone, refunding a seat, naming other admins, renaming the team, and changing whether you take part. It is meant for the person actually running the session when that isn’t the person who paid.

Can I compare team members with each other?

Yes — once at least two members have finished, your team view's Compare tab shows any two of them side by side across all four preference pairs, in plain language. The Preference pairs tab covers your team's group dynamics pair by pair, and Team insights unlocks once 3 people have finished — your team type, strengths, and how the team works together. It keeps updating as the rest finish.

Is this really built for work teams?

Yes — that's exactly what it's built for. MBTI for Teams brings the same MBTI team methodology used by 88% of the Fortune 500 to any team, self-serve: you set up the roster and pay for everyone in one purchase, each teammate's seat includes their own full MBTI For You, the team builds as they finish, and the team view delivers the same team-type methodology behind the official MBTI® Team Report — with a facilitator's guide included so a team lead can run the session themselves. Invites and getting everyone started

What does my teammate actually receive?

An email with your name, your team's name, your personal message if you wrote one, and a link. The link opens a page that explains exactly what taking part means — what gets shared, what stays private — before they agree to anything. They never see a price.

Someone says they never got the invite.

Open your team, expand the members, and look at their row. If the invite bounced, it says so — and tells you whether resending will help. A hard bounce or a spam complaint means their mail provider is refusing our email, so resending cannot get through; use Change name or email to send that seat to an address that works.

If there's no delivery problem shown, the invite reached them. Use Resend invite, or Copy invite link and send it yourself over chat.

Can I chase people who haven’t started?

Yes — individually or all at once, limited to one reminder per person per day so nobody gets buried. Anyone who has opted out is never included in a reminder.

Do you remind people for me?

Yes. If someone hasn't joined after 3 days, we email them a reminder with their invite link — and once more at 10 days if they still haven't. After that we stop, so nobody gets nagged indefinitely. Reminders only go out on weekdays, never at the weekend.

We only ever remind people who haven't joined yet. If someone has already joined, said no thanks, been taken off the team, or had their seat refunded, we leave them alone. Your own Remind button works exactly as before and is separate from this — you can still nudge anyone yourself, whenever you like.

I typed the wrong email address.

Use Change name or email on that person's row. The seat moves to the corrected address, a fresh invite goes out, and the old link stops working — so it can't be used by whoever received it by mistake.

How long do people have to accept?

An unused seat lasts a year from purchase. We'll email you about anything still unused about a month before it expires, and again a week before. If a seat does lapse, you can revive it yourself — use Resend invite on that person's row and their seat re-opens with a fresh link. Only if it's very old will you need us to do it for you.

Is the invite link private?

Treat it like a key: whoever opens it takes that seat. That's why you can copy it and send it directly when email is being unhelpful — and why we invalidate the old one whenever a seat changes hands.

If someone doesn’t want to take part

Can someone decline?

Yes. Sharing your MBTI results with the team is the whole basis of the experience, so someone who'd rather not can decline from the invitation — and that invite then won't open the assessment for them. Nothing is charged to them. You'll get an email telling you who declined and at which address, because a decline is often really a wrong-address problem.

Does one person refusing hold up everyone else?

No. They stay on your roster with an honest status, but they drop out of the completion count — so your team finishes when everyone who is taking part has finished. This was deliberate: one person should never be able to lock the results for the whole group.

What can I do with their seat?

Three things, all on their row. Invite them again if it was a misclick. Change name or email to give that seat to somebody else at no extra cost. Or Refund this seat to take the money back — available while the seat is unused.

They declined and then changed their mind.

Use Invite them again. Their original link stopped working the moment they declined — on purpose, so a seat you may already have passed to someone else can't be taken by accident.

What if we drop below three people?

Your team page will say so. Team results need at least 3 people taking part; until then, invite someone new, restore a removed member, or reassign a declined seat.

Changing your team

Can I add more people later?

Any time — your roster is never frozen. Use Add people to this team. You're charged only for people who are new to you; anyone who has had a seat on one of your teams before joins free, and so does anyone you're restoring. If nothing is chargeable there's no payment step at all.

Can I reuse people from my other teams?

Yes, and they're free. When you add people, there's a picker listing everyone who has been on one of your other teams — no retyping addresses. It deliberately shows only people who joined a team and finished the MBTI, because those are the people who can join a new team instantly and actually appear in its results; anyone still mid-assessment, anyone who declined, and anyone whose seat was refunded is left out. Adding someone here still sends them an invite they have to accept — agreeing to share their results is per team, never carried over from another one. If you run a lot of teams the list is capped, and it tells you when it is showing only the first slice — search by name or email, or just add the person by email directly.

Do unused seats expire?

A seat nobody has claimed stays open for a year, and we email you about 30 days and again about 7 days before one lapses so it never expires as a surprise. If one does lapse you can re-open it from the roster by resending the invite — that gives the person a fresh window without you paying again. A seat that has already been used can't expire: the assessment and results were delivered, and they belong to that person for good.

Someone has left the company.

Remove them. Their invite link dies with the membership, they drop out of the team's results, and they're told — along with the reassurance that their own MBTI results are still theirs. If they ever come back, Restore is free.

Does removing someone free up their seat for a replacement?

Not if they'd already joined — that seat delivered a real assessment and a real report to a real person. Use Add people for the replacement. A seat that was never used is different: reassign it to the new person, or refund it.

Can I change my mind about taking part myself?

Yes, at any point — including after you've finished. Take myself off the team is on your own row. Consultants and facilitators running this for a client team often leave themselves out entirely. Your own results stay yours either way, and you keep running the team.

Someone joined under a name I don’t recognise.

Their row will show Joined as and the address they actually used. An invite link works for whoever opens it, so they signed in with a different account from the one you invited — usually a personal address, sometimes an Apple private-relay one. If it's not who you meant, remove them.

Your team’s results

When do we see team results?

The type table and side-by-side comparisons fill in as people finish. Team insights and the MBTI® Team Report unlock once 3 people have finished — below that, an aggregate of a team doesn't describe anything meaningful.

Why does it say “Preview”?

Because not everyone has finished yet. What you're seeing is computed from the people who have, and it will change as the rest complete — your team's type is a majority across four preference pairs, so a late finisher genuinely can move it. A Team Report downloaded during this period says Preview on its cover and in its filename, so a copy that gets forwarded can't be mistaken for the final one.

Who can see the team results?

You, any team admins, and every member who joined and consented. That's what they agreed to at the invitation, and it's the point of the exercise — the insights are for the team, not a report about them.

Can we see each other’s full results?

Not the reports themselves. On screen the team sees four-letter types, for people who have finished and consented; whoever runs the team can also export everyone's types and facet results together, for the team-building tools on our Explore & Share site. Each person's answers, preference-clarity scores and personal report stay private to them, permanently.

Someone changed their type after we’d finished. Can they do that?

Yes, once, on their own. The MBTI works that way by design: the assessment indicates a type and the person confirms it — only they can. If their change moves the team's type, everyone is emailed so anyone holding a downloaded report knows to fetch it again. If it doesn't move the aggregate, which is the usual case, nothing happens.

How do I know my downloaded report is still current?

Your team page shows a Results as of date, and every Team Report prints the date it was generated on its cover. If your copy is older than the date on the page, download it again.

Do we need a certified practitioner to run the session?

No. A facilitator's guide is included and anyone on the team can use it — the team view is written to be read directly by the people in it, not interpreted for them.

Privacy and what gets shared

Exactly what does my team see about me?

Your MBTI results, and only once you've finished: your four-letter type, shown throughout the team view, and your facet results, which whoever runs the team can export for the team-building tools on our Explore & Share site. Not your answers, not how clearly you expressed any preference, and not the rest of your personal report. Nothing at all is shared until you explicitly consent, which is a required step at the invitation rather than a buried default.

Can my employer see my individual results?

No. Buying the team doesn't buy access to anyone's report. The person who set the team up sees the team view like every other member, plus a team data export carrying each consenting member's type and facet results — never anyone's answers or personal report.

What happens to my data if I leave the team?

You keep your account, your type and your personal report — removal ends a membership, not an entitlement. You lose access to that team's shared view, and your type stops appearing in its results.

What if I delete my account?

Your name and email address are removed from every team roster you were on, and your results are deleted with your account. Deletion is available in Account settings at any time.

If you’ve been invited to a team

What am I being asked to do, and what does it cost?

Take the MBTI assessment — about 20–30 minutes — confirm your best-fit type, and share your MBTI results — your type and facet results — with your team. It costs you nothing; your seat is already paid for and you'll never be asked for payment details.

What do I get out of it?

Your own full MBTI For You results — your type, how clearly you expressed each preference, all 20 facets, and guidance on work, relationships and stress — which are yours to keep whatever happens to the team. Plus your team's type table, comparisons with any teammate, insights into how the group works together, your own copy of the Team Report, and the team learning courses. It's the same report an individual buyer pays $59.95 for.

I’ve taken the MBTI before. Do I have to do it again?

No. Sign in with the account that has your results and your existing type joins the team — usually in seconds. You're never charged and you never retake.

I was invited at my work address but my account uses a personal one.

Sign in with whichever account holds your results. We'll show you both addresses and ask you to confirm before you join, so nobody takes the wrong seat by accident, and your team will see which address you used.

What if I’d rather not share my type?

Decline from the invitation. You'll be asked to confirm, because it can't be undone from your side — the invite won't open the assessment afterwards. Nothing is charged to you, and whoever invited you is told so they can offer the seat to someone else.

Can I take it but keep my results to myself?

Not through a team invitation — sharing your results is what the seat is for. You can buy MBTI For You separately at any time and keep it entirely private.

Can I leave a team later?

Ask whoever runs the team to remove you and they can do it straight away. Your own results are unaffected — your account, your type and your personal report stay exactly as they are.

Payments

What exactly will I be charged?

The team purchase — unless you already own MBTI for Teams, in which case it's free — plus one seat for each person who is new to you. The order summary breaks that down before you pay, and it asks the server the same question checkout does, so the number on screen is the number on your card.

How do you decide who counts as “new to me”?

Anyone who has never had a seat on a team you own. We match on the address you invite and on the account the person actually signed in with — so if you invited someone at work last time and they joined with a personal address, typing either one recognises them and they join free.

Can I pay by invoice or add a purchase-order number?

Every order produces a proper invoice PDF alongside the receipt, and checkout has an optional purchase-order field that prints on it. For full procurement — blanket POs, net terms, tax-exempt certificates — contact support, as that runs through our enterprise channel rather than self-serve checkout.

Can I refund just one person’s seat?

For someone who declined and whose seat was never used, yes — the option is on their row. Once a seat has been used it delivered a full assessment and report to that person, and that belongs to them. A seat refunds exactly what it was billed on that order, not today's price.

Gifting MBTI for Teams

Can I gift MBTI for Teams to someone else?

Yes. You can gift MBTI for Teams to one person from our gifting page. They receive a code by email; redeeming it gives them MBTI for Teams for themselves, including their own full MBTI For You. When they're ready to run a team, they set up the roster from their account — the team itself is already covered by the gift, so they pay only the member seats for the people they invite.

I gifted MBTI for Teams — can I be on their team too?

Yes — team owners choose exactly who's on their roster. Ask them to add your email as a member: you'll get a personal invite link, and if you already have MBTI results on your account, you'll join their team in seconds without retaking anything.

What if someone I invite hasn't taken MBTI yet?

That's the normal case — their seat covers everything. Your team purchase includes a full MBTI For You assessment for each person you add, so there's nothing extra to buy and nothing for them to pay. They take the assessment from their invite link at their own pace, and your team page shows their progress the whole way.
